Economic Development in Sterling
The Town of Sterling’s Economic Development Committee (EDC) plays a vital role in supporting and guiding the town’s growth by fostering a strong, balanced local economy. Our mission is to attract new businesses, retain existing ones, and promote sustainable economic opportunities that enhance the quality of life for residents, visitors, and the workforce.
Economic Development Committee Mission Statement
The Sterling Economic Commission works in partnership with businesses to support the attraction, retention, and expansion of businesses, including the advisory and management of the Sterling Industrial Park, to expand the tax base and employment opportunities.
What the Economic Development Committee Does
The EDC is a volunteer advisory board made up of local professionals, business owners, and community members who work closely with town departments, state agencies, and private partners. Together, we:
Promote Sterling as a welcoming location for new businesses and industries
Support local entrepreneurs and small businesses
Provide guidance on zoning, permitting, and site selection
Advocate for infrastructure improvements and long-term planning
Help align economic initiatives with community goals
Maintain open communication with local stakeholders and residents
Business Support and Services
The Economic Development Office and Committee are here to ensure that businesses—whether exploring relocation or already established in town—have the resources and support they need to succeed. We assist with:
Site selection, including information on available commercial and industrial properties
Understanding local utilities and infrastructure (e.g., city water/sewer access in the Industrial Park)
Navigating permitting and licensing processes
Connecting with local and regional partners for workforce development, financing, and technical assistance
Addressing common questions, such as:
What cell carriers operate from the town-owned tower?
Where is the local Town Hall or business registration office?
What resources are available for startup funding or expansion?
A Balanced Approach to Growth
Sterling values a thoughtful balance between commercial development and residential character. We aim to grow our tax base while preserving the small-town charm and community spirit that define our town. This balance helps fund essential services and create new opportunities for both residents and businesses.
Whether you’re a business owner looking to relocate, expand, or start fresh, the Economic Development Committee is here to help make Sterling a place where your business—and our community—can thrive.
